Capital of the Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine region (Grand Est), Strasbourg is also the official seat of the European Parliament. Located near the border with Germany, the city sports a culture and architecture with German and French influences.
Its cathedral, in Gothic style, offers daily entertainment on its astronomical clock and offers a panoramic view of the Rhine halfway up its bell tower over 142 meters high.
In the heart of the city, the Big Island is surrounded by the river Ill. The district of Petite France includes medieval bridges and canals lined with half-timbered houses dating back to the 16th century.
Strasbourg also has traditional winstubs (wine bars) serving local specialties such as sauerkraut.
